New Release: Century Hollow

Century Hollow is a soundscape album in response to field recordings captured during the spring in the Styx Valley of Lutruwita/Tasmania. Each composition emphasises textural and timbral responses to field captures; utilizing tonal, repeating and droning responses performed on guitar, piano, synthesiser, theremin, accordion and with voice.

Century Hollow features several long-form field recordings captured within the Styx Valley in Lutruwita/Tasmania. There are many contested sites within the Styx valley, with growing support for the protection of old-growth forests which provide vital habitat and hollow-bearing trees for several threatened species. Hollow-bearing trees allow many native species for breeding and to shelter from predators, with species now becoming threatened due to a lack of appropriate hollows. It takes over 100 years for a small tree hollow to form, creating vital habitat for native animals. Medium hollows for critically endangered swift waylitja/parrots can take over 200 years to form. The album title is an acknowledgment, and awe of the hundred years it takes for these places of shelter to emerge.
